Perris Aquino, creator of CyphrCam, holding a laptop with a backpack

Perris Aquino is a third-generation Filipino American and a descendant of survivors of the Bataan Death Marches of World War II. Growing up, he fell in love with hip hop culture and street dance, from its Black, Latin, and Afro-American roots, drawn to what it represented: diversity, resiliency, and community, in the face of oppression of marginalized communities.

A Las Vegas-based movement artist and solo builder, Perris started dancing in 2009 and is a member of Hybrids, a versatile freestyle dance crew based in Las Vegas. His foundation spans b-boying, locking, popping, house, and parkour.

Experience

He trained with pioneers of street dance such as Scoo B Doo, Suga Pop, Mr. Wiggles, and Zulu Gremlin, many of whom were based in Las Vegas for a time. Committed to both choreography and freestyle, in 2019 he took one-way bus tickets to Los Angeles on his own to study at studios including Snowglobe Perspective, Off Stage, and Movement Lifestyle.

His performance and creative work includes choreography, stunts, and collaborations with brands such as the Jabbawockeez, Webtoon, DJI, and GQ Japan. He performed in Las Vegas productions including Particle Ink and was a cast member of the Jabbawockeez PRISM show at the Luxor. His dance videos and vlogs have built a following of 43K+ across TikTok and Instagram, and his parkour and freerunning have been featured by GQ Japan.

Projects

For a decade, Perris worked as a professional in the Las Vegas entertainment industry, choreographing, performing, and producing shows.

He knows firsthand what it is like to be a working dancer, to gig, and to navigate the struggles of the entertainment industry.

Today, Perris works as a direct-response copywriter and marketer and a full-stack solo developer.

His flagship app is CyphrCam, a tool for movement artists that lets creators dance with headphones while it automatically syncs the music onto the video, so you can film yourself with no editing.

It also functions as a marketplace where independent artists and dancers support one another in a creator-to-creator economy.

He also created ReSerch, a notetaking tool for capturing notes from TikTok and Instagram videos, and built CyphrCam solo over eighteen months, testing it with over 100 dancers around the world.

Everything on the CyphrCam blog comes from inside the practice: years of movement and the tools he built to make it easier.

A good place to start is how to record dance videos with headphones.
